Stephanie James has only one goal in mind, to get through her college years and graduate and then move onto a well-paid career. She has always been the hardworker in her group of friends and has made a goal not to date, especially not anyone associated with the military as growing up Steph didn't have a dad. Her dad was a soldier who died just before she was born in Desert Storm. From this her hatred of everything military grew. On the night of a costume party for New Years Eve , Steph while scouring the library has a midnight kiss with a guy dressed in military gear. She kisses him thinking that despite his uniform , he's cute and what the heck it's New Years Eve. The days pass though and Stephanie can't get the guy out of her head and nicknames him GI Joe. The only thing she wishes was that he wasn't dressed like a soldier at the costume party -otherwise he would have been absolutely perfect. We discover that the guy she kissed is Brandon Walker and soon begins the start of dating, the thing is though that he is "really" a soldier and once he graduates he will have to leave to go to the Fort and start training. What will happen though when things get really serious and heated only for Steph to discover he omitted the truth and that he is a soldier. Will she be able to get past her hatred of military or will this relationship turn out to be short-lived ?
Soldier On by Sydney Logan was a good military read and made me think about the TV series NCIS. It also shows readers, that no matter how much you hate of something - if you really love the person then you will be able to learn to live with that something you despise.
This is another amazing, beautiful, heartfelt story of Stephanie and Brandon. It is also a story of two families and their perspective on life as far as how short it is and how it can change in the blink of an eye.

Sydney Logan is one of the most amazing and talented authors I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I love her characters and the details she writes into them. Her stories have substance and bring you to the most powerful feelings you can experience.

All Stephanie James knows about the military begins and ends with the death of her father in Desert Storm. As a result, she is terrified of ending up like her mother heartbroken and widowed at twenty years old. She aims to avoid this by refusing to date soldiers. So far so good. Sort of.

Determined to graduate on time and with honors, she spends her senior year juggling a full course load. Her best friend and roommate persuades her to attend a New Year’s Eve party, where she shares a toe-curling New Year’s kiss with a costumed stranger.

A few weeks later, she meets Brandon in one of her classes, and learns that he is her mystery man. Sparks fly and the two become very close, although hesitant to pursue a relationship at first. When things eventually progress, Steph learns the – to her – awful truth Brandon is a soldier looking to go into further training upon graduation. This is a definite setback in their budding romance, and Steph’s reaction to Brandon’s omission is very understandable, considering her history. However, Brandon has secrets of his own that motivate his decision. He struggles with his commitment to the military and his feelings for Steph.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as it gives insights into both main characters’ thoughts and feelings. I found myself rooting for them both and yelling in my head at them to figure things out and just talk to each other. But on the other hand, their backgrounds realistically explain their hang-ups, which makes it all the more tragic.

The ending might feel a bit rushed to some, but if you are somewhat familiar with the US military, or know people in it, it will definitely make sense.
