This was my first time reading anything by Jennifer Watts and overall I enjoyed it. Sports romance is certainly one of my favorite categories and this one turned out to be a fun and quick read. I loved Shane and Carmelina’s initial meeting and all of the ways that they continued to test and try to one up each other through the entire book. Carmelina’s best friend (Matty) and Shane’s adorable family were really well written and truly enhanced the story and the main characters. Shane is a tried and true Texas boy and certainly at times acts like a bit of a caveman. I don’t mind a dominant man in my romance novels but there was a time or two in this one that I was a bit turned off by the degree of commanding and possession that he showed over Carmelina. There were a few times that I was confused as to why Carmelina was not telling him where to stick it. As you get to know these two characters more and more throughout the book their quirk’s and their personality differences start to become what endears you to them. I loved Shane’s utter commitment to Carmelina and not just in regards to their relationship together but her damaged self-worth that a rough childhood left her with. Although there were some very steamy love scenes I felt that a few too many of them were instigated by a fight or power struggle they were having. The main reason that I gave this book only 3 ½ stars is because I just could not stop cringing in regards to Carmelina and her very naïve decisions that led her into some bad situations. I understand her need to prove herself and show everyone that she can take care of herself but she took this to the level of stupidity more than a few times. Overall I did enjoy the story and would read another by this author.Tags : On His Turf - Kindle edition by Jennifer Watts. I love reading this book I couldn't put it down...... I really enjoyed it. First time reading this author and very pleased.
The plot was ok. The storyline sometimes felt unfinished. The characters were immature. * spoiler * Props to the author for no cheating. Overall, just ok.
This is a cute story! It makes me want to have all boys when I decide to have kids. I love the soccer player Shane the most he is a great example of how all men should treat women. I loved this book!
I loved Carmelita, her strength and determination to have a better life. Shane, while a bit of a caveman is everything you want from a Texas boy. This book kept my attention and I recommend it to you if you enjoy sports romance books.
Carmelina Dahl is a twenty six year old full-time journalist's assistant and part-time waitress who is struggling to not only pay her own bills, but to support her alcoholic, ungrateful mother. Aside from her best friend, Matty, Carmelina keeps most other people at arm's length. Her abusively dysfunctional upbringing has left her mistrustful and closed off to relationships. That is until she meets hunky soccer player Shane Mitchell.
Shane Mitchell is a Texas golden boy, with a fantastic job and a loving, supportive family. On the surface, Shane seems to have it all, but just under the surface is a dark and sad past. When Carmelina and Shane connect, the sparks turn into tumultuous fireworks.
On His Turf is a modern-day love story with a definite edgy-ness to it. The sex scenes are graphic enough to be considered erotica - hence the 18+ warning that the author has wisely added to the book's description.
I would have liked to have seen Shane's caveman-attitude dialed back a bit. I did have some difficulty imagining Carmelina's strong-willed character so readily accepting of some of the book's rougher sex scenes. Parts of the book were somewhat predictable and I found myself correctly guessing what would happen next. However, there are only so many boy-meets-girl scenarios available and most follow the same formula. Jennifer Watts has added a few plot twists to prevent the story from being overly predictable.
I would recommend On His Turf to anyone looking for a fun, quick poolside read.
I absolutely loved this story! Of course there's quite a few grammar and spelling mishaps but I'm not a stickler for that... I really don't like how quickly everything worked out for the HEA because there was so much emotion and detail in the rest of the book. The epilogue, however, was AMAZING!! There's something about getting to see what happens to the characters you go on a journey with throughout a story. All in all, I loved it 😃
I started reading this on my holiday. It's the first I've read from Jennifer Watts and I haven't read a ton in the romance genre but this book has me hooked. It's a light and east read but not too simple where it leaves you bored.
I really couldn't put it down. It pulled me through a whirlwind of emotions and I loved and hated both main characters multiple times throughout. I just can't say enough good things. just read it and find out for yourself ;)
