To Keep the Sun Alive A Novel Rabeah Ghaffari Books

This is a brilliant novel, beautifully written. It is rich in detail about Iranian cultural and family life, and tells a compelling story that grips the reader from the first page. I have seen numerous enthusiastic pre-publication reviews, placing this book among the top new works this year. They are all accurate. Anyone reading this novel will fall in love with the Iranian family in the novel and their trials and challenges around the time of the Iranian revolution. Ms. Ghaffari was born in Iran and her own family experience enriches the novel with true cultural detail that will bring both laughter and tears. Needless to say, this book will provide a very different, and far more humanized perspective on Iran and Iranian life than Americans see in the media and from politicians. It will change many minds about Iran. Don't miss this wonderful book!

To Keep the Sun Alive A Novel Rabeah Ghaffari Books Reviews

I couldn't pit this book down. It offers an insightful look I to Iran / Persia between the decline of the rule by the Shah and the rule of the Ayatollah.
Absolutely beautifully written-wonderful description of characters, places, and traditions. You will fall in love with this story and will not want to put the book down once you have begun reading it. I look forward to another book by this author. Hopefully, it will not be too long in coming.
This is a beautiful novel . Once you start reading you can't put it down.
As an Iranian American who lived through the revolution in similar age as the author, I am mesmerized how she articulates and pictures the way Iranians watched their country go through a radical change.
I am amazed with the author’s command on her story telling, by navigating the reader’s mind through the path she unravels masterfully.
I am not an avid reader because I can’t keep focus, but this book is one of a few which got me hooked.
This is a beautifully written and deeply moving book. It depicts the times leading up to and following the Iranian revolution through the intersecting lives of a fictitious – and often fractious - Iranian family as its members are caught up in the evolving social drama. In scheme and in scope, this resembles one of James Michener’s treatments of historical events as seen through the lens of fictional characters; but Rabeah Ghaffari’s sensibility is far more like that of a Persian Anton Chekhov in its closely observed, frequently funny, and lovingly observed portrayal of flawed and passionate human beings both bound together and pitted against each other by family ties and the rush of history.

This story of a family in Iran will pull you in from page one. Ghaffari's writing style is poetic, and even musical at times. It reads like a classic without any snoozy pretentiousness. Gorgeous imagery of a country in strife, right before the revolution, and very relatable characters. In fact, each character will probably remind you of someone you know. However, there are no stereotypes. You know a piece of literature is good, when it's universal. It's hard to believe this is Ghaffari's first novel. Can't wait to read more!
