Listen to Your Heart Kasie West Books

This is yet another near-perfect romance by Kasie West, by far and wide my favorite YA romance author. While this was not my favorite book of hers (that would be "Life, Love and the List" which I've read a hundred times) it is still one of the sweetest romances out there. Kate is an engaging heroine, Alana a funny, loyal best friend, and Diego? *swoon* He was so darn adorable there aren't enough words to say how sweet he was. I just loved everything about him, and he and Kate were just perfect together. I can easily see them together for the rest of their lives.

I also enjoyed the settling of the story, the podcasting advice show, and how likeable the characters were. Nobody was perfect, but I loved how I was spared many of the annoying cliches that plague most YA contemporary romances (the mean girls, the popular jock boyfriend, the backstabbing best friend, the absent parents, etc.) and instead got a believable, sweet story that totally brightened my day. Thank you Kasie! :)

Listen to Your Heart Kasie West Books Reviews

Listen to Your Heart is a great addition to Kasie West’s already impressive collection of YA contemporary novels. West is known for her lighthearted and fun books and Listen to Your Heart is no exception. Kate is the last person who would choose to be in the spotlight, but when an elective class lands her in one of the seats as cohost for her school’s advice podcast, that’s exactly where she ends up. Kate is forced out of her comfort zone, but discovers that she may have a knack for this kind of thing after all. I loved that this novel included a lot of different and unusual family dynamics. Kate and her family run a marina and as a result, she has cousins and aunts and uncles always in and out of her house at any given time. One of my criticisms of West’s novels has always been that I never felt like I got to know the love interests quite as much as the protagonists. But in Listen to Your Heart, West takes her time developing Kate’s love interest and aside from the protagonist, Diego felt like the most developed character. I really liked the chemistry between these two characters and aside from P.S. I Like You, this might be my favorite pairing of hers. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the relationship dynamics in this one (slight spoiler alert ahead Kate ends up developing a crush on her best friend’s crush, but I think West does a good job of keeping Kate and Alana’s relationship intact while also allowing Kate to very organically develop feelings for Diego). Overall, I really enjoyed this latest West novel and it reminded me that a quick, laid-back read can be just as satisfying as a more dense novel.
I say in every Kasie West book review that I'm a big fan. She publishes a book. I read and review that book. Half of her books I tend to get for review and the other half I get denied for. I don't mind. She's an auto-buy author for me so I know I'll read them all eventually anyway. I also say in every review (because it's true) that I can always count on her for clean and feel good books with happily-ever-afters. She's consistent. I love consistent. I love knowing when I pick up a Kasie West book that I'm going to be satisfied when I turn the last page. And I have been. Some, of course, leave me more satisfied than others.

I loved that Listen to Your Heart had the making of a podcast at the heart of it. I don't listen to podcasts right now as there's no opportunity, but I have in the past and found this to be a fun and unique aspect.

Kate was an interesting character. I can't say that I remember reading too many antisocial characters. She's not really antisocial. She just has a small inner circle, and I see nothing wrong with that. I loved her friendship with Alanna. Alanna makes my list of favorite BFFs. She had Kate's back at every turn.

I find it doesn't happen often when I like the main girl more than the main guy, but for some reason in this case I did. Diego was nice enough but I guess I fought the idea of him actually ending up with Kate and so I resisted liking him a little. Don't get me wrong. I didn't dislike him either.

My one big complaint about Listen to Your Heart was the predictability. Granted, much of the meat of this book is spelled out in the description, but I was a little disappointed to find zero surprises. I don't mind figuring things out, but I have learned that I prefer when there's at least a little doubt in my mind that I'm right.

Despite feeling Listen to Your Heart was too predictable for my preferences, I still ended up cheesing my face off reading the end. Kasie West does it again. This wasn't my favorite of her books, but it was still what I've come to expect from her. Listen to Your Heart gets 3.5 Stars. Have you read Listen to Your Heart? What do you think? Let me know!
Do you hear that? It's me, squealing over the adorableness of this book. I say this in every review on Kasie's books, but it always need to be said because it is always true, her books are the BEST to get me out of reading slumps. I start reading them, then I find myself at 300 in the morning wondering how I already finished it.

Like all of her books, I loved the romance in this. Usually, books where the main conflicts are caused by miscommunication annoy the heck out of me, but somehow despite that I was still thoroughly enjoying the book through those parts. I don't want to spoil anything about the love in this book so I will just say it was cute and had me smiling through the whole thing.

If you are looking for a fluffy, cute, and quick reads that are great to read between heartbreaking contemporaries or intense fantasy books, I will always recommenced Kasie's books, this one included.
This is yet another near-perfect romance by Kasie West, by far and wide my favorite YA romance author.
